Most Schools seem to stay with same Brands. For example, Lenovo 11e model has Gen1, Gen2, Gen3, Gen4 and Gen5. Also, HP 430 has G1, G2, G3, G4 and G5 models.

Using this method helps for schools who upgrade old models to new. However, there might be mistakes when replacing the parts. As different generations may use different part. You probably have had some bad experience in the previous online shopping due ordering wrong part. Searching the model is not enough to identify the part, part number is needed as well. So getting the correct replacement with right part number is of significance.

Here are some methods tell you how to find the part number or the manufacturer number.

HP always uses HP SPS number as replace number.

Dell has their DP/N number as reference and you can always find the replacement part number by searching the service tag in dell website.

Lenovo’s FRU number is very helpful when sourcing the part. Also the type number on the bottom cover will help to find the part.

For Acer laptops, they use a unique combination of numbers and letters, such as 60.V7PN2.001 on the actual part.
